How Playing Games Can Be Of Benefit To Your Children

More than any other generation, today’s children have grown up with video games and the internet as part of their daily life. Educational games are known to enhance children’s learning and many are approved by teachers and played in the classroom. Parents and teachers often talk about the negative effects of playing video games. However, studies by leading researchers have shown that playing video games could actually boost children’s learning and development.

But what about the online video games that your children play for fun? Can battling aliens such as Ben 10 or shooting at zombies really have a positive impact? You may be interested to learn that many psychologists believe so. They believe that playing video games can enhance brain development and help to develop hand-eye co-ordination. Many recent online video games such as Ben Ten Alien Maker can help children to develop their creativity. Other games could develop planning and problem-solving skills.

They also believe that playing video games can assist with other life skills such as persistence, resilience and problem solving. In addition it is believed they can help children to become better team players and assist in teaching them to follow rules.

Children are captivated by their favourite cartoon action-heroes, whilst parents feel safe with the knowledge that playing video games could boost children’s learning and enhance their social and physical development.

Steam’s Early Access Lets You Play Games Before They’re Finished

Here’s the official press release:

March 20, 2013 — Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the addition of an Early Access section to Steam’s library of over 2,000 titles.

Steam Early Access titles allow the community to get involved early and play select titles during their development. The goal of Early Access is to provide gamers with the chance to “go behind the scenes” and experience the development cycle firsthand and, more importantly, have a chance to interact with the developers by providing them feedback while the title is still being created.

To support the interaction between Early Access players and developers, Steam offers easy and automatic updating of games, letting developers iterate quickly to respond directly to bug reports and feedback from customers. And, like all Steam games, Early Access players will be able to interact with other players, making it easy to create and share screenshots, tips, and in-depth guides.

“A lot of games are already operating as ongoing services that grow and evolve with the involvement of customers and the community,” said Sean Pollman of Badland Studio. “Greenlight helped us raise awareness for Kinetic Void, and now Steam Early Access will let us continue the development of our game while gathering crucial feedback, input and support from the steam Community.”

The first titles coming to Steam Early Access are:

  • 1… 2… 3… KICK IT! (Drop That Beat Like an Ugly Baby)
  • Arma 3
  • Drunken Robot Pornography
  • Gear Up
  • Gnomoria
  • Kenshi
  • Kerbal Space Program
  • Kinetic Void
  • Patterns
  • Prison Architect
  • StarForge
  • Under the Ocean

Baka and Test: Anime Review

First, a few words about the title: the full Japanese title is Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, which translates to Idiots, Tests and Summoned Beasts. Funimation, for whatever reason, released it under the half-translated and just odd-sounding Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts. I don’t normally comment on what title a show gets released under, but pointless half translations like that annoy me. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

At Fumizuki Academy, students are divided into classes by their academic ability, based on an exam at the beginning of the school year. Those who do the best go into Class A where they have downright luxurious facilities in the classroom. Those who do a little less well go into Class B where they merely have very good facilities. Class C get nice facilities, Class D get average facilities, Class E get lousy facilities. And then we’ve got our heroes, Class F; a pack of morons who get really crappy facilities.

Our hero, complaining about his seat. Yes, it’s just that cushion.
